Our Founder Story
Elea Jay Essentials is the product of love and legacy. From as early as I can remember, beauty rituals were a time of bonding and quality time between myself, and both my grandmother Eleanor and late mother Janice.
Like most girls, I remember spending many Saturday mornings in the beauty salon and getting my hair pressed on Saturday nights to be perfect for church on Sunday morning.
My grandmother always took special care of her scalp, often having me scratch and grease her scalp on Saturday nights as we watched In Living Color, SNL, and sampled desserts she'd prepared for Sunday dinner.
I learned to appreciate the art of hairstyling, by being surrounded by a string of hairstylists and barbers on my mother's side of the family-- my Aunts and Cousins--who were masters at their craft.
My mother showed me the beauty of simplicity. It was her classy signature top knot bun, red lipstick, and pearl earrings that taught me that you could look and feel like a queen no matter your status or situation.
I carried those lessons with me into adulthood, experimenting with natural ingredients like aloe vera, olive oil, and vitamin E to oil my scalp like my grandmother used to use on my cuts and burns when I was a child.
In my twenties, I started doing hair part time while my husband Demorcus and I worked to raise our three sons. It was shocking to hear how many women shared with me that it was their first experience getting hair extensions or braids because they suffered from sensitive scalps.
This ignited the idea to help find a solution for both women and men to be able to style their crowns as they please without worrying about suffering from inflamed scalps and breakouts.
In January 2020, I started sampling formulas for my first collection based off my Saturday nights with grandma. Cleanse with an astringent. Treat. Moisturize.
The final result? The HydraLoc Scalp Care System.
I look forward to sharing with you the rituals that were shared with me.
